SA/NT Education Evening - November 2016

SA/NT Education - August 2016

The SA/NT branch held an education evening on Wednesday 3rd August at the Pavilion on the Park in Adelaide.  The topics of the evening were “Cardiovascular Complications” and “Complication and Cures for Dialysis Access”.

Laura Gaskin, a cardiac nurse and educator presented a well-received session on “Cardiovascular Complications”. Firstly Laura refreshed our memory on the anatomy of the cardiovascular system;  progressing to the pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system.  Laura’s passion heart was evident throughout her presentation

Kim Torpey, vascular access/CKD nurse presented “Complications and Cures for Dialysis Access”.  Kim gave a passionate talk. He presented the traditional methods used to maintain a viable access to the new approach being used by the vascular team at Flinders Medical Centre. Kim used props to demonstrate the extraordinary pressure applied when a fistula is ballooned. Car tyre pressures are 32 psi; the pressure during the balloon process is up to 10 times higher than this.
