The RSA Board is responsible to members for the overall performance of the organisation, providing leadership, strategic direction and overseeing the day-to-day operations conducted by the RSA Office. A diverse range of backgrounds, skills and ideas is necessary to have a high functioning Board, as is a passion for contributing to the future success of the organisation and the community which we serve.
The RSA Board seeks to progress its aim to advance the care of people with kidney disease and to be the peak body for renal nursing and related allied health professionals through diverse strategic initiatives. By contributing as a Board member, you will be positioned to influence outcomes and lead the association into the future.
The RSA is ready to embark on an exciting future. The RSA remains in a strong position in the aftermath of a COVID-impacted 2020 and is ready to navigate the adoption of a new three-year strategic plan.
In accordance with the RSA's Constitution, three opportunities exist to join the Board as follows:
What is the commitment?
RSA Board members typically meet face to face four times per year for a full day – on a Saturday in February, August and November, as well as immediately prior to the conference. In between meetings, they are expected to contribute on at least one committee (or similar) which aligns with their skills and interests, and promptly respond to matters which arise via email so that the work of the RSA can progress. Additionally, RSA Board members are expected to attend one or two tele/video conferences held throughout the year to complete statutory work and other priority matters. While these positions are voluntary, all reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out these duties will be reimbursed.
Roles and responsibilities:
Directors of the RSA Board will play a key role in a number of disciplines, choosing from finance; governance; marketing; communication; membership and member benefits; education; research; policy / professional advancement; and government, industry and stakeholder management. Directors need to draw upon and advance existing skills and experience in financial acumen, strategic planning, business development, relationship building, verbal and written communication, policy development, managing risk and more. This is a rewarding and esteemed role where you will meet new peers and expand your understanding of renal care across Australia, New Zealand and beyond.
Who is eligible?
Financial voting members of the RSA - that is, Ordinary and Life members - are eligible and encouraged to apply for all of the abovementioned Director positions. Non-members are not eligible for Elected Director (including Casual Vacancy) positions. If you have a broad understanding of renal care across Australia, New Zealand and/or globally, as well as significant current experience in clinical, management and/or academic settings we encourage you to consider this opportunity. Current RSA Board members whose term is expiring may be eligible to renominate, subject to the terms within the Constitution.

A comprehensive library of Board material, an initial induction and ongoing support is provided to new Board members.
