RSA eNews - CommuniquePlus July 2021

CommuniquéPlus

Message from the President

Unlike the unexpected mid-year lull the RSA had this time last year, May and June 2021 have been an especially busy time for the Society and for all the teams working behind the scenes for RSA members!

Our first ever totally virtual conference was a real success, with happy delegates and a ‘nearly-real’ conference experience - despite the limitations that came with it. Much appreciation to all those who presented, because the content was high-quality, and to those who gave praise and comment and question in the live feeds, adding to the feelings of interactivity…

We have honoured and awarded members in our annual RSA Awards program – a shout out to all those who received nominations, and those who were  awarded for their personal contributions and excellence – congratulations go again to Monica Schoch for her very deserving Annual RSA Award for all the fantastic work she has done in the vascular access education space.

We have also recognised the outstanding contribution to the Society by Fiona Donnelly, past-President who has become only the ninth person to be made an RSA Life Member.

We have launched our new refer-a-friend initiative, we have announced recognition for long-serving members through the gift of a lapel-pin (to be presented at local branch symposia events later in the year), we have welcomed Lee Hayes and Lenny Jacoby as new faces at the RSA Board (virtual) table – and we are presently on the hunt for a new RSA Executive Officer – could that be you??

For more information on all of this exciting RSA activity, please keep reading..!

Until next time

Jon Hosking
President

Refer a friend and get 3-months free RSA membership*

The “Refer a Friend” initiative developed by the RSA Membership Committee was launched on 1 July 2021, and will run through until 31 October 2021. The campaign seeks to welcome new members - or encourage lapsed members to return.  We invite current RSA members to spread the word about RSA

How does it work?*

When completing the online membership application, your friend simply enters your name in the "Refer a friend - Referred by" field.

Having processed this membership application, the RSA Office will then extend your current membership by three months --- for free.

PLUS you and your friend will be put in the draw for a $50 gift card.  Whilst the extension to your membership can only happen once, the entries into the gift card draw will happen every time a friend is referred.

Minimum Standards for providing haemodialysis at home

In response to a Coroner’s recommendation, Safer Care Victoria has reviewed protocols and procedures for home haemodialysis across Victoria, with the aim of developing a more standardised approach to delivering home haemodialysis and improving patient outcomes.

Safer Care Victoria has developed a set of minimum standards for providing haemodialysis at home, to guide Victorian health services. The standards focus on services which should be provided in addition to those routinely provided for patients undertaking haemodialysis in a dialysis facility. The goal of the standards is to improve patient outcomes and reduce unwarranted variation in care and support provided to patients on home haemodialysis.
